INJECTABLES

What Are Neurotoxins?

There is a quartet of cosmetic neurotoxins on the market. All are FDA Approved and the most recognizable one may be Botox®; the other Neurotoxins are Jeuveau®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®. Each containing the same active ingredient (BoNT-A) and is FDA-approved to treat the same aesthetic concerns. Xeomin is the only one of the four that does not contain accessory proteins; Xeomin is designed to deliver the toxin without any protein additives. All Neurotoxins start working once they’re injected into the muscle. Their full effect may not be seen for aesthetic purposes until seven to fourteen days after the injection. At the time of your consultation, the experts at Hourglass Medical Aesthetics will advise you of which FDA-approved product would best meet your goals.

Neurotoxin injections temporarily reduce the underlying muscle activity to prevent and treat the appearance of then lines and wrinkles. Scowling, frowning, and laughing are some of the facial expressions that initiate muscle contraction, causing the fine lines to appear and become more established over time. Fine lines and wrinkles are a natural part of aging and can appear more severe when the skin suffers from sun damage, dehydration, and a history of smoking.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal Fillers are different from Neurotoxins. Dermal Fillers use hyaluronic acid and similar substances to “fill-in,” “plump-up,” or “contour” areas that have lost volume and smoothness. Neurotoxins freeze the muscles to stop creases and wrinkles caused by expressions. In many instances, Neurotoxins and Dermal Fillers may be used in conjunction with one another to achieve the look you are seeking.

COMMON AREAS FOR THE USE OF DERMAL FILLERS INCLUDES:

Lip Filler

Lip filler adds volume, shape, and definition to the lips for a fuller appearance.

Jawline Filler

Jawline filler enhances the structure of the lower face for a more defined look to reduce the appearance of sagging skin under the neck and chin.

Under Eye Filler

Under Eye Filler treats the sunken and hollow part of the under eye called the tear troughs. This treatment also diminishes the appearance of wrinkles under the eyes and dark circles for a more youthful appearance.
